Meet the Thunders

Hi! We’re RJ and Amie Thunder, the creators of Thunder Cultures.

Our story begins at home, in the Thunder family kitchen. RJ’s dad, Dr. Thunder, started making L. reuteri yogurt after learning about its potential benefits. What began as a simple experiment quickly turned into something remarkable. RJ’s parents noticed positive changes in how they felt and shared the yogurt with Aunt Mary, who had been dealing with digestive challenges for years. After trying it, she became one of its biggest advocates, often saying it changed her day-to-day life in ways that truly mattered to her. Hearing her excitement, we knew we had something special.

At the time, RJ was a scientist researching stem cells for a biotech firm in San Diego. Inspired by his family’s experience, he dove deeper into the research on L. reuteri. Combining his scientific expertise with a love for innovation, he began refining the recipe in the kitchen—with plenty of taste-testing along the way. After months of experimenting, RJ transformed his dad’s homemade recipe into something even more exceptional: a yogurt that’s fresh, delicious, and thoughtfully crafted.

What started as a small family project has grown into something much bigger. We’re thrilled to share it with you and hope it brings a little extra joy—and wellness—to your table, just like it has to ours. Enjoy!
